TAIEI

Hello, I’m Taiei Siebert. Taiei is my Dharma name, which I received from my Buddhist teacher, Dr. Ryoei Tyler .

Through my interest in Asian martial arts, I began to explore Buddhism as a teenager and read the first books on the subject. During my Japanese studies, I then delved deeper into the various schools of Japanese Buddhism. I developed a particular fascination with the Tendaishū because of its universal character and diversity of practices.

To deepen my knowledge, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Buddhist studies. However, over time, I realized that academic study alone cannot fully grasp the teachings. Fortunately, I met my teacher, under whose guidance I have been practicing ever since. In 2021, I was ordained a priest on Mount Hiei in Japan, the headquarters of the Tendaishū.

Unfortunately, there is currently no Tendai temple in Germany, and not much information is available in German. I hope this site will help raise awareness of the Tendaishū in German-speaking countries. I myself am just a simple priest, but if any readers of this site are interested in becoming official Tendaishū students, I would be happy to try to put them in touch with a qualified master.
